So, in an ask we recently and quickly explained the ways to find out if testosterone is covered by your health insurance. This was basically coauthored, okay wait, pretty much exclusively authored by Adrian’s mother who is the Director of Operations at a smaller national level health insurance…
This article highlights a glaring issue for transgender people - are our identities valid enough and recognized as legitimate enough to be placed in the correct housing if we are ever picked up and spend time in a jail or prison?
From the article:
“The policy notes that the department’s goal is to provide a safe and secure environment for all inmates who identify themselves as transgender, or who are identified by Cermak Health Services of Cook County as having gender identity disorder. Cermak is the health care provider for county’s Department of Corrections.
Transgender prisoners can ask to be placed in the male or female section of a prison, according to the policy, but the final decision is made by a gender identity committee of medical staff and representatives from the Sheriff’s Department and Department of Corrections.”
Hi again!
I just thought I’d remind all of our followers that this blog still take submissions, not just for the themes but on just about anything. If you have a question you think can get answered here, submit it or ask privately. If you wish to remain anon, let me know and I will make sure you do, while still getting what you need.
Much love,
Zack
There’s still time kids!
All of my lovely followers can submit text posts, videos, links, etc that you think would be useful for Ohio trans*men. You could even promote your blog to maybe make some new friends.
There;s never a deadline to post and I’ll almost always get them up the next day, probably sooner. So here’s hoping all is well with you guys!
All the Best,
Zack
This is a link to Dr. Mendalie’s website. He does FTM and MTF top surgery. The bottom surgery is limited from what I’ve read. His practice is in Cleveland, which is awesome for us because it cuts on travel costs. He has multiple videos, including one of an actual surgery. If you do watch that one, don’t eat beforehand. It’s pretty graphic. The website has just about everything you need to know, even some limited pricing.
As we all know, our transitions are unique and surgeries are no different. It could cost more or less depending on what needs to be done to get the results you want.
Note: I haven’t personally called the office nor do I know of anyone personally who has went through him. This is strictly informational.
Includes a timeline, the letters to his surgeon from his therapist, information about his consultations, what he packed to his surgery, and his revisions.
This week’s theme is: Dysphoria Tips. These are things that work for me, and if you feel the need to…you can submit your own!
So…
The theme this week is How to deal with Dysphoria. I didn’t get much feedback on what to do this week, so I’m going with the easiest one to do.
As always, you can submit your own video (by video submission or link), try to keep it under 10 minutes…or you can submit your tips via text post if you aren’t comfortable with doing a video.I’m making an amendment to the themes. You can submit for past themes if you want, those will probably get posted on Sundays (maybe earlier if needed).
This weeks video will be up in a bit, enjoy and message/submit any questions or concerns. Enjoy!
All the best,
Zack
In an article titled, “‘They’ is me” by #IvanCoyote http://www.xtra.ca/public/Vancouver/They_is_me-11333.aspx he talks about a recent experience where a college course would be given extra credit if they could track down his name before his transition, and his reaction to this assignment….
Eloquent and excellent article.
